CARIBOU

The stunted softwood of these northern trees doesn’t make the best firewood, but as the MacKenzie river runs north from the bigger boreal forest further south, it brings lots of great firewood with it. The night before Chef Rich and the Wild Game film crew were to shoot the big caribou cookout, they noted that Rich goes through a lot of wood when he’s cooking and that there might not be enough split. While Diane and the kids, Rich and most of the crew went to bed, the show’s director and production assistant headed out on the river with Jimmy to find some good dry hardwood. By the time they were back and the wood was split and ready, it was 2am. Thank God for 24 hour daylight!
